Sanborn Elementary School marked its 40th anniversary with a celebration that brought the entire school community together to honor the past.
Students and staff gathered in the gymnasium for a special assembly led by Principal Lori Peeples, who shared highlights from each decade since the school’s opening in 1985. From pop culture trends to historical events, Peeples guided students through the years, drawing laughter and amazement as she revealed artifacts and memories from Sanborn’s early days – including items from the school’s original time capsule.

The celebration continued with a performance by the Sanborn Singers choir and a special appearance by members of the Sanborn family, the school’s namesake, who joined in the festivities.
Following the assembly, students toured “decade museums” set up in each grade-level classroom, where they explored artifacts, photos, and memorabilia from the 1980s through the 2010s. The school library displayed yearbooks, staff photos, and albums from as far back as the groundbreaking ceremony, offering a nostalgic look at Sanborn’s history.

To close out the day, students gathered outdoors to make a wish for the students’s future and blew bubbles together – a joyful moment symbolizing the hope and community spirit that continue to define Sanborn Elementary.
