Dear Dragon Families:

As we wrap up this incredible school year, I want to take a moment to share my heartfelt thanks for the journey we’ve taken together. It’s been a year filled with growth, meaningful learning, and unforgettable moments. Our students have soared in so many ways, and it’s been a true joy to witness their progress.

The strength of our Sanborn community continues to shine! Thanks to our dedicated staff, supportive families, and inspiring students. Together, we’ve created a space where our Dragons thrive, and your partnership has made all the difference.

Looking ahead to next year, we’re excited for what’s to come, welcoming new Dragon staff members and saying goodbye to some beloved members of our Dragon family. While it’s always bittersweet to see team members move on, we know new adventures await them.  We send our best wishes to Mrs. Romeo and Mr. Hamby, as we will not have preschool classes at Sanborn next year. We are so grateful for their impact on our youngest learners, and we fully support the SVVSD system’s preschool offerings just down the road at Northridge and Mountain View. Families seeking preschool options will find great opportunities there.  We also say farewell to Mrs. Manzanares and Mrs. Calvo, who are moving into new roles outside of Sanborn. These two incredible educators have left a lasting mark on our community, and we know they will continue to do amazing things wherever they go. While change can feel different, it also brings fresh beginnings, and we are thrilled for what’s ahead! Our Kindergarten Dream Team, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Oliver, are already planning engaging and playful learning experiences for our new kinders in the fall. Get ready for lots of joy and discovery! Our new 1st grade team will bring big entrepreneurial energy next year! Mrs. Hefferon and Mrs. Capener will lead our young learners through exciting, hands-on projects that build creativity and innovation. We’re especially excited to welcome Mrs. Capener, who comes to us from another SVVSD school. She’s a wonderful addition to our Dragon family!  Mrs. Adams will welcome our upcoming 2nd graders with open arms, continuing their journey with care and curiosity. Our tight-knit rising 3rd grade group will stay strong as they move into Mrs. Cousineau’s 3rd grade class, where their momentum will continue to grow.  We’re also excited for 4th grade, which will be a powerhouse team with Mrs. Tank and returning Dragon Mrs. Lopez. She has been part of Sanborn in the past, and we’re so happy to have her back with us! In 5th grade, we will say goodbye to Mrs. Benner, who has been a wonderful part of the team.  Mrs. Knutson will be joined by a strong new Dragon, Ms. Ewing, who brings a wealth of experience from another SVVSD school. We’re thrilled to have her join our pack! We also celebrate the retirements of Mrs. Frye, our amazing special education teacher, LaVerne Held, Dragon’s Den Childcare Director and Mrs. Garcia, our dedicated recess para. Their commitment and care have meant so much to our students and staff, and we wish them a joyful and relaxing retirement. We are also fortunate to welcome Mrs. Morgan as our Multi-language teacher. Finally, we send well-wishes to Mr. Raby in 3rd Grade and Rachel Kalnbach from Dragon’s Den, who both will be moving on to new SVVSD schools. We’re happy for the exciting opportunities that await them!

Transitions can be emotional, but they also open the door to new opportunities and growth. At Sanborn, we embrace the changes with open hearts and look forward to the exciting experiences that lie ahead. We are eager to welcome new Dragons into our lair while carrying the memories and legacies of those moving on.

As we head into summer, I hope it brings you joy, relaxation, and meaningful moments with those you love. Don’t forget to join us for our Farewell Picnic this Thursday at 11:30 AM—a time to celebrate a wonderful year and bid farewell to cherished friends and teachers.

Once a Dragon, always a Dragon… and Dragons ALWAYS SOAR!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Peeples

Principal

24-25 Last Day of School-Farewell Picnic: We will host our End of The School Year Farewell Picnic on May 22nd at 11:30-12:30.  Families are welcome to come and bring lunch to enjoy a picnic by our playground.  If you would like to come enjoy lunch with your student on this last day of school, please note our procedures for this event:

**Please do not check into the front office.  Instead, you will need to go to the back field area to find your child’s teacher.  The back field will be divided by grades with signs.  (If you have multiple students in different grades/classes, you will need to sign one out to sit with another student/grade).   If you decide that you would like for your student(s) to leave after the picnic, you will need to SIGN them out from their teacher.  Each teacher will have a sign out sheet.  If your student will not be leaving, please do not sign them out and they will return with their teacher to the class after the picnic.

Tips & Ideas to Keep Young Minds Soaring All Summer Long!

Hey Dragon Families! Summer is a time for fun, sunshine, and well-deserved rest—but it’s also a great time to keep those brains active in creative and low-stress ways. Check out these easy and exciting ideas to help your Dragon keep learning all summer long:

 Adventure Reading

  • Visit the Longmont Public Library for free summer reading programs.
  • Set a family reading challenge—read under a tree, in a blanket fort, or even by flashlight at night!
  • Try a “book swap” with neighbors or classmates.

🧠 Mind-Stretching Math

  • Practice math skills while cooking (measuring, fractions, doubling recipes).
  • Use apps like Prodigy or Khan Academy Kids for short, engaging practice.
  • Play card games or board games that use math skills (Uno, Yahtzee, Monopoly Jr.).
  • 🧃 Entrepreneurial Fun
  • Host a lemonade stand, art sale, or dog-walking service—have your Dragon design signs, plan prices, and track earnings!
  • Invent a new product using recycled items—take a picture and give it a cool name!
  • 🌍 Explore & Discover
  • Visit a local museum, park, or nature trail—make it a “field trip” with a journal entry afterward.
  • Start a bug journal, rock collection, or photo scavenger hunt.
  • 📝 Write, Draw, Imagine
  • Keep a summer journal with stories, doodles, or highlights from each day.
  • Write a postcard to a family member or a future “first-day-of-school self.”
  • Create a comic book or illustrated story about your summer adventures.
  • 🎨 Creative Spark
  • Try weekly art challenges (make a collage, paint with water balloons, or sidewalk chalk murals).
  • Build something with LEGO, blocks, or recyclables and explain how it works.
  • 💻 Online Tools Worth Exploring
  • Storyline Online: Celebrities read children’s books aloud!
  • PBS Kids: Games, videos, and learning adventures.
  • Mystery Doug: Science questions kids actually ask!
  • 💚 Most of All… Have Fun!
Remember—learning happens in all kinds of ways. Exploring, imagining, building, creating, talking, reading, and playing are ALL ways your Dragon can keep growing!
