Dear Dragons,
I hope everyone had a wonderful and refreshing Spring Break! As we wrap up March and step into April, we find ourselves in the final stretch of the school year. It’s hard to believe how quickly time is flying by!
With April comes CMAS testing for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Our students and teachers have been working hard to prepare, and we are confident they will do their best. Thank you for your continued encouragement and support in helping them feel ready and confident.
This Friday, we are excited to celebrate our Academic All-Star Breakfast, recognizing students who have shown outstanding academic leadership at Sanborn. Additionally, a reminder that our next Late Start is Wednesday, April 2nd.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our school community. Let’s make this a fantastic last few months of the school year!
Warm regards,
Lori Peeples
Principal, Sanborn Elementary

iPads to Stay at School During CMAS Testing- FOR ALL GRADES–As we approach CMAS testing, we want to remind families that all student iPads will need to remain at school throughout the testing window. Please ensure your child brings their iPad to school on Monday, March 31st. It will remain at school. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education. If you have any questions or concerns regarding CMAS testing, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
CMAS INFORMATION: This April Colorado students will take end-of-year assessments called CMAS or Colorado Measures of Academic Success. Students in grades 3-8 will take English language arts and math tests. Students in grades 5, 8 and 11 will take science tests. CMAS tests measure student progress on the Colorado Academic Standards, which outline what students should understand, know and be able to do at each grade level and in each content area. CMAS data helps determine if educational goals are being met and if students are on track to graduate prepared for college and career. With this assessment, we can improve instruction for all students and parents can gain important insights. We will be sending a letter home for the families of the testing grades that will have the CMAS Schedule to see the states and times your child’s grade(s) will be testing. Makeup testing and missed instruction can be avoided by scheduling appointments and vacations for non-testing days and by ensuring that your student arrives at school on time. Your support is appreciated. Student practice resources can be found here: https://coassessments.com/practice-resources/

Preparing for Standardized Tests Without Stress

As standardized testing approaches, it’s important to help your child feel prepared without overwhelming them with stress. Create a positive atmosphere by discussing tests as an opportunity to show what they’ve learned rather than something to be feared. Ensure your child gets enough sleep and eats healthy meals leading up to the test. Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing to help them stay calm on test day. By focusing on effort over perfection and reinforcing that tests are just one part of their academic journey, you can help reduce anxiety and boost their confidence.
