Dear Sanborn Parents and Guardians,
Sanborn has had an amazing start to the school year, and our students are already diving into some exciting opportunities! Student Council elections just happened, and our Choir, Robotics Club, and 100 Mile Club are all underway, offering great chances for our Dragons to explore new skills. As autumn begins on September 22, we can’t wait to experience the beauty of the season’s change. Mark your calendars for Parent-Teacher Conferences in October! These meetings are crucial to strengthening our partnership in supporting your student’s success. Don’t forget, tonight at 6:15 PM, our PASS parent group will host “Pizza on the Playground.” Hope to see you there! Go Dragons! Soar On!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Peeples
Principal
Sanborn Elementary School
October SOAR Students: In the past, we have only honored our SOAR students on Late Start days. However, we are excited to be able to include additional months this year. Therefore, we will be honoring selected SOAR students on October 4th! Selected students will have the opportunity to eat a Chick-fil-A meal and sit at our “VIP” table during lunch. In addition, we will celebrate these students at our SOAR Assembly that day! Selected students will get to participate in a SOAR Challenge at the assembly. It is a wonderful event and we are excited to get to celebrate students every month this school year!
PIZZA ON THE PLAYGROUND TONIGHT!!!

Each year, schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic areas and may, therefore, qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s), and they require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress. In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas.
Referrals are open through the month of September and will close on the last day of the month. Referrals after that date will be addressed on a case by case basis. Completing a referral guarantees a review of the student profile to determine if testing is recommended for the student. The process for identification requires a body of evidence and often takes place throughout the school year.
The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
If you have any questions, please contact Maisie Sky, our GT Coordinator.

School Accountability Committee
SANBORN SCHOOL ACCOUNTABILITY COMMITTEE: School-level Accountability Committee (SAC) believes in the value of community involvement in our schools. Active parent engagement helps to ensure the unique needs of the school’s community are served through a positive collaboration between the school’s leaders, staff, and members of the community. This committee is a resource to support the development and maintenance of strong partnerships between our school and the community we serve as well as to ensure schools meet the expectations of a School-level Accountability Committee (SAC) as defined by Colorado statutes. The school-level accountability committee (SAC) serves in an advisory role to the school principal. The school’s principal is ultimately responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and district requirements and meeting the academic performance expectations defined by SVVSD. At a minimum, the SAC: Makes recommendations to the principal on school priorities for spending school funds prior to adoption of the school budget. This review should ensure that funds and spending priorities align with the school’s improvement plans and core values of the school to benefit all students. SACs are also expected to annually review and approve the school fees. Provides recommendations annually on the school’s Unified Improvement Plan (UIP). Meets quarterly to review and discuss the implementation and progress of the school’s improvement plan. If you would like to be involved in our School Accountability Committee, we will meet once a month. Feel free to contact our office at 303-772-3838 for more information.
SAC Meetings: Sanborn School Accountability Committee Meetings will be held once a trimester. The 1st Trimester meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024 3:45-4:45 pm.
There will be a vision and hearing screening at Sanborn on Wednesday, September 25th. Your child(ren) may be on the list to be screened. Please contact our health clerk, Heather Huizenga, if you have questions or concerns.

Building a Strong Home-School Connection
Maintaining open communication with your child’s teacher is key to their success. By staying engaged, you gain insight into your child’s strengths and areas for growth, allowing you to support their academic journey more effectively. Attend school events, read teacher communications, and check in regularly about what your child is learning in class. When your child sees you invested in their school life, they develop a deeper commitment to their own learning. Creating this partnership with the school fosters a positive, collaborative environment where your child feels supported both at home and in the classroom.
