Before discovering I liked working with children more than sitting behind a desk, I sampled several disparate careers. As a private duty nurse, I cared for billionaires on luxury yachts and  patients in hospitals including geriatrics.  In scholarly book publishing, my job description actually included "care and feeding of the publisher." (I went on to become the Director of International Co-publications.) As Administrative Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at University of California, and legal assistant at CU Boulder, my superiors had doctorate and juris doctorate degrees. But in high school, I worked in farm labor.  I've started a few businesses, providing book publication services to authors and institutions; selling geodesic dome home packages and providing building seminars in Oregon; and am still licensed as an independent realtor in Colorado. I was certified as a business teacher in Colorado, and spent one semester teaching an evening desktop publishing class for adult students at Boulder Vocational/Technical School. I've traveled for work, assisting in hosting an international legal conference in Brussels and meeting with publishers at the Frankfurt Book Fair.  But after all those experiences, I bought a large child care center, ran it for fifteen years, and loved it.

My favorite spare time activities are traveling with my family and attending live performances. I also like to grow food (fruit and nut trees, vegetables), love music, read a lot, and am writing a book.

My two daughters attended Sanborn. One is now a special education preschool teacher/itinerant for SVVSD, the other is an Airbnb superhost in Gig Harbor, Washington. My son served in the Colorado National Guard for many years and is a communications specialist with the Broomfield Police Department. I have 7 wonderful grandchildren.

My goal as a director for Community Schools is to be a positive influence in the lives of the children in our program.
