Bio
My name is Sam Benner and I have been teaching since August of 2017. I live in Mead, CO with my husband and our two dogs, Mac and Peggy. I am a Colorado native and product of the St Vrain Valley School District. I am head of the drama club at Sanborn and have helped direct Beauty and the Beast (2017), The Wizard of Oz (2018), and The Lion King (2019). I absolutely love superheroes. In fact, my classroom and my kitchen are decorated that way! Music and theater are also very important to me. I have always had a love for music, singing in choirs all throughout my life starting in elementary school going into college. I even had my own radio program at the UNC Student Radio. I started doing theatre in the third grade, and eventually became the Drama Club President at Skyline High School, earning 3 Letters in Drama. As far as a teaching philosophy goes, I believe that kids will do well when they can. My take on Dr. Ross Greene's "Kids will do well if they can" reinforces the idea that all kids can be successful.  Taking care of a kiddos' needs is the key to unlocking their path to education. If that means taking the lesson a little slower or repeating directions, great! If that means taking time for a mindful moment and talking about how we deal with stress, awesome! When you can break down the barriers around a student's education, you allow them to access their learning, take ownership of it, and create life-long learners. Additionally, building relationships with your students will make guiding them through their obstacles, and identifying those obstacles, possible. Relationships are the foundation for which you can build an amazing successful student.  If you want to know more about me, explore my teaching philosophies , or see examples of work and lessons I’ve created, please visit my website, https://sites.google.com/svvsd.org/benner-base-camp/home
