Dear Sanborn Dragon Thunder,
Season’s greetings! Our school is buzzing with winter joy as we immerse ourselves in the festive spirit, and it brings me great pleasure to share the warmth that fills our halls.
Our staff and students are not only embracing the winter theme with delightful decorations, but they also recently reveled in the joy of our Dragon Dash Assembly. The energy was infectious as our highest-earning students gleefully popped balloons with mystery contents over my head, much to the amusement of their peers. Witnessing their laughter and excitement as they got me all messy was an absolute delight.
In the midst of this cheerful chaos, our students are also revisiting the mid-year goals they set back in the fall for iReady and DIBELS assessments. It’s heartening to see their determination to achieve and even surpass these goals. We encourage you to engage with your children about their testing experiences and celebrate their accomplishments.
As we reflect on the fun-filled moments we’ve shared, we eagerly anticipate the December adventures that lie ahead. Thank you for being an integral part of our Sanborn family. Wishing you all continued joy and excitement throughout this festive season!

Mrs. Peeples

DRAGON DROPS
As our students prepare to take mid-year assessments, this is a good time to shed some light on the concept of “productive struggle” and the invaluable lessons it holds for our young learners.
Productive struggle is more than just a momentary challenge; it’s an essential part of the learning process. When our students encounter difficulties, be it in solving a tricky math problem or attempting to replace a stubborn battery in a toy, they are engaged in a process that fosters resilience, problem-solving skills, and a growth mindset.
It’s crucial for us, as parents and educators, to recognize the beauty in these moments of struggle. Instead of immediately stepping in to provide solutions, consider offering guidance and encouragement. Ask open-ended questions that prompt critical thinking and exploration. Celebrate the effort they put into overcoming obstacles, reinforcing the idea that learning is a journey filled with triumphs and, yes, a few bumps along the way.
Supporting our children through productive struggle not only builds their academic resilience but also equips them with life skills that extend far beyond the classroom. As we encourage them to grapple with challenges, we are fostering a sense of independence, curiosity, and the confidence to tackle the unknown.
So, let’s embrace these opportunities for growth with a positive mindset, knowing that through the productive struggle, our children are becoming the resilient, capable individuals we aspire for them to be.
