Dear Sanborn Parents and Guardians,

As we welcome the colorful month of October, we’re excited to share fun and enriching experiences with your children at school during this delightful time of year. Fall brings an array of educational opportunities that not only engage our students but also foster their growth and creativity. From engaging science experiments with pumpkins to autumn-themed art projects, we’re dedicated to making learning both exciting and memorable.

We want to remind you that our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for the week of October 9th through October 11th. These conferences are a valuable opportunity for you to connect with your child’s teacher, discuss their progress, and gain insights into their educational journey. Your active involvement in your child’s education is crucial, and we look forward to seeing families here to collaborate with our dedicated educators during these conferences. Together, we can continue to provide the best support and guidance for your child’s academic and personal development.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education, and we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to see you and discuss your child’s growth and achievements.

Warm regards,

 Mrs. Peeples

Our after school choir, the Soaring Dragon Singers will perform the national anthem at the Colorado Association of Gifted and Talented conference on Monday October 9th. This is an amazing opportunity for our choir students to perform in front of teachers, principals, admin, and so many more professionals from all over Colorado! We are very proud of them for taking the risk to perform in front of a large audience, and know they will sing beautifully!

DRAGON DROPS

Oct 14, 2023 – Annular Solar Eclipse in Colorado

On October 14th, we will have a solar eclipse, a fascinating celestial event that provides a wonderful opportunity for family learning and exploration. For our area, we will have about 80% obscuration and this will start approximately at 9:10 am and last until about 12:05 pm.  Safety is paramount, so here are some educational and kid-appropriate activities that you can enjoy with your children during this special occasion.

1. **Solar Eclipse Glasses**: Never look directly at the sun. You can seriously hurt your eyes, and even go blind. Proper eye protection, like eclipse glasses or a special solar filter, is the only safe option. Sunglasses don’t work. Ensure you have approved solar eclipse glasses for safe viewing. Teach your children about the importance of protecting their eyes and demonstrate how to use the glasses properly.

2. **Shadow Play**: Set up a safe viewing area outdoors and place a piece of cardboard with a hole in it on the ground. As the eclipse progresses, watch as the sun’s image transforms through the pinhole.

3. **Storytime**: Read age-appropriate books or articles about solar eclipses together to educate your child about the science behind the event and its cultural significance.

4. **Online Resources**: Explore online resources and websites that provide live streams of the eclipse, which can enhance your child’s understanding and excitement.

6. **Artistic Expression**: Encourage your child to express their experience through art. They can create eclipse-themed drawings, paintings, or crafts.

7. **Family Discussion**: Engage your child in discussions about the eclipse, answering their questions and sparking curiosity. What causes an eclipse? Why does it happen? How do different cultures perceive eclipses?

8. **Document the Event**: Have your child keep a journal or draw pictures to document the eclipse as it happens. This can serve as a keepsake and a way to track their observations.

Remember to emphasize the importance of safety throughout the eclipse-watching experience. Enjoy this rare celestial event as a family and use it as an opportunity to spark your child’s interest in astronomy and science. We hope you have a wonderful time observing the solar eclipse on October 14th!
