Dear Dragon Families,
September is such a wonderful time of year at Sanborn! Our staff members are busy helping students set meaningful academic goals for the year ahead and guiding them in planning the steps needed to reach those goals. We are also excited about our 40 for 40 community outreach effort to collect items for the Longmont Humane Society—please consider donating an item to support this cause as we give back to a community that has supported us for the past 40 years. October is quickly approaching and brings many fun and exciting school events. Parent–teacher conferences will be held the week of October 6th and will provide a valuable opportunity to partner with your child’s teacher to support continued growth. Later in the month, we will celebrate our 40th Anniversary/Open House on October 21st, a special event your student is helping to create. The celebration will feature student-made showcase items and memorabilia from past decades. Please plan to join us for this once-in-forty-years event!
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. It’s a great TIME to be a DRAGON!
Dragons SOAR!
Sincerely,
Lori Peeples
Principal

At Sanborn, we believe that strong schools are built through collaboration between families, staff, and the community. Our School Accountability Committee (SAC) values the input of parents and community members in shaping the educational experience for all students. By working together, we ensure that the unique needs of our school are met and that every child has the opportunity to thrive. The SAC serves in an advisory role to the school principal. While the principal is ultimately responsible for meeting all federal, state, and district requirements and achieving academic goals set by St. Vrain Valley Schools (SVVSD), SAC members provide valuable input and guidance in key areas.
What does the SAC do?
- Budget Priorities: Recommends spending priorities for school funds before the budget is finalized, ensuring alignment with the school’s core values and improvement plan.
- School Data and Unified Improvement Plans: Offers recommendations on the school’s Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) and meets quarterly to review progress toward improvement goals.
25-26 SAC Meetings:
Meetings are held at Sanborn Elementary.
Thursday, October 23, 2025 – 3:30 – 4:00 p.m.
Wednesday, February 26, 2026 – 3:30 – 4:00 p.m.

Each year, schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic areas and may, therefore, qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s), and they require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress. In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas.
Referrals are open through the month of September and will close on the last day of the month. Referrals after that date will be addressed on a case by case basis. Completing a referral guarantees a review of the student profile to determine if testing is recommended for the student. The process for identification requires a body of evidence and often takes place throughout the school year.
The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
If you have any questions, please contact Maisie Sky, our GT Coordinator.

The Power of Reading at Home
Reading with your child—or encouraging independent reading—builds language skills, strengthens focus, and improves comprehension. Make reading a daily habit, even if it’s just 15 minutes before bed. Allow your child to choose books that interest them, and take time to discuss what they read. Ask open-ended questions like “What was your favorite part?” or “What do you think will happen next?” Reading together creates meaningful moments and lays the foundation for academic success across all subjects.
