Hello to our Thunder of Dragons!

We are off to an incredible start to the school year, and we are thrilled to have your children back in our classrooms! The energy and enthusiasm we’ve seen from both students and staff have truly set the stage for an amazing year ahead. It’s heartwarming to witness our students settling into routines, building new friendships, and embracing learning with excitement.

Tomorrow, we will celebrate our amazing SOAR students at our first school assembly of the year! These students have been shining examples of our core values: Safety, Ownership, Achievement, and Respect. We can’t wait to honor them for their outstanding efforts.

This year, we are also rallying behind our Dragon Power! This is the power within each of us to do our best and be our best every day—whether it’s through learning, helping others, or facing new challenges with courage and determination. Our dragons are stronger than ever, and we are excited to see the growth and success that lies ahead for every one of them!

Thank you, parents, for your continued support and cooperation. Your involvement plays a huge role in our school’s success, and we are grateful for all that you do. Together, let’s make this year one filled with learning, growth, and, of course, Dragon Power!

Warm regards,

Lori Peeples

Principal

SANBORN STUDENTS WHO SOAR!!!

At Sanborn, our SOAR students exemplify what it means to be Safe, take Ownership, strive for Achievement, and show Respect every day. Each month, teachers select students from their class who consistently demonstrate these values to be honored at our SOAR assembly. These outstanding students receive a special VIP lunch as a reward for their efforts. Families will be notified with a letter when their child is chosen, so they can share in the celebration of their success! We are proud of this month’s SOAR students!

iPad Charging at Home

We want to emphasize the vital role you play in your child’s education by ensuring that their assigned iPad and headphones that require charging are charged and ready for school every day. Charging the iPad at home each night is crucial to supporting uninterrupted learning in the classroom. By establishing a dedicated iPad charging area at home, you are not only fostering responsibility but also helping your child make the most of our digital learning resources. A fully charged iPad ensures that your child can engage actively in lessons, complete assignments, and access educational materials without interruption. Thank you for your partnership in creating a seamless and enriching learning experience for your child.

100 Mile Club is a wonderful opportunity for students to participate in physical activity which will help them better focus on their learning, and develop an appreciation for running.  Registration and payment is all online this year. Please click HERE to register and pay for 100 Mile Club. The registration fee for 100 Mile Club is $25 per runner. If you plan on signing up, please do so quickly, so I can create lanyards and prepare for our first practice.  (Students can sign up for 100MC at any time during the school year.)  Preschool students can participate but an adult must stay for the duration of practice. Our practices will start on Monday, September 9, 2024.

Clothing Reminder

Check the weather before sending your child to 100 MC and make sure they have appropriate clothing. The mornings can be significantly cooler than your child’s afternoon recess.

We encourage you to send your child with extra shoes and socks. Some days the wet grass can leave our 100 Milers with soggy feet!

**If we have inclement weather, or temperatures below 25 degrees, we will not have practice.  We do not have an option to move 100 MC indoors.  Please sign up for Remind so you can receive cancellation updates!

This is going to be a great year! I can’t wait to see you out on the blacktop!

Your 100 Mile Coach,

Kim Pridemore

We are excited to offer an opportunity for our K-5th Grade students to advance their reading and math skills beyond the school day with i-Ready Personalized Instruction. Personalized Instruction uses your child’s i-Ready diagnostic data to determine their specific skills and needs. The program develops customized lessons to improve and accelerate reading and math skills, whether students are performing below, on, or above grade level. Students will be able to access their unique lessons at home, during after school programs, when absent, and during school closures.
Each lesson is designed to:

  • Take 15 – 20 minutes
  • Connect concepts to real-world scenarios, history, science, and high interest topics using videos, interactive elements, and excerpts from diverse, high quality novels.

Students can monitor their own progress and receive ongoing feedback and encouragement while completing the lessons. Students, educators, and parents/guardians can also access real-time learning data, including scores on individual lessons and quizzes, and progress with specific skills. Students can access iReady from home by going onto their iPad and going to the Classlink icon.  They can also go to the site through: classlink.svvsd.org Then students should click on the iReady icon. They can choose between Reading and Math.  The teacher may have some “assigned” lessons listed.  Otherwise, your student(s) can feel free to choose either subject and enjoy the personalized learning extension opportunity outside of school!  We encourage you and your student(s) to tap into iReady at home!

DRAGON DROPS

Building a Strong Home-School Connection

Maintaining open communication with your child’s teacher is key to their success. By staying engaged, you gain insight into your child’s strengths and areas for growth, allowing you to support their academic journey more effectively. Attend school events, read teacher communications, and check in regularly about what your child is learning in class. When your child sees you invested in their school life, they develop a deeper commitment to their own learning. Creating this partnership with the school fosters a positive, collaborative environment where your child feels supported both at home and in the classroom.
